How many types of brick are there?
There are 5 types of brick according to their composition: common bricks, engineering bricks, facing bricks, special bricks and concrete blocks; also there are 3 types of brick according to their character: they may be solid perforated or hollow.
What is the meaning of bricklaying techniques?
The bricklaying techniques are the different methods that can be used to build up brick structures such as walls.
Describe 2 brick laying techniques:
Bricks are laid with both horizontal and vertical joints to keep the bricks apart. After the excess mortar has been removed from the face of the bricks ( and behind), the joints can be finished in various ways - for an attractive effect as well as for protection against the weather. Coloured mortar is a specially prepared dry mix to which only water needs to be added. Pigment can be bought to colour your own mix of mortar but it can be difficult to obtain the same colour for each batch.
In Flemish bond, a course which alternates headers and stretchers is laid. Then, a course is laid on top, with the headers in the previous course being centered under the stretchers in the new course. The course laid over this one is oriented like the first course, and so on, creating a complex alternating pattern with the long and short sides of the brick. To bring more contrast to the pattern, sometimes the headers are made from different colored brick or brick which has been treated to darken it so that the headers will stand out.
Stretcher bond, also known as running bond, consists of bricks laid with only their long narrow sides (their stretchers) showing, overlapping midway with the courses of bricks below and above. It is the simplest repeating pattern, but since it cannot be made with a bond to the bricks behind it is suitable only for a wall one brick thick, the thinnest possible wall.
What are their advantages and disadvantages?
It has long been prized as aesthetically pleasing and visually interesting.
If only one face of a Flemish bond wall is exposed, one third of the bricks are not visible, and hence may be of low visual quality.
It is common in modern buildings, particularly as the outer face of a cavity wall, or as the facing to a timber or steel framed structure. Stretcher bond is now used in building garden and boundary walls which are "stand alone" by incorporating a layer of steel brick reinforcing mesh.
is not structurally strong or aesthetically interesting.
Brick & mortar:
this expression made reference a something that is real that have a structure in some place of the world; as example an online store don't have a solid structure –is something virtual-, but a store in the real word is a building placed and with a solid structure -is a building constructed with materials that even can be "brick and mortar"- .

Drop a brick:
this expression means tell somebody a big news -tell something unexpected-. The comparison is made it because the impact of receive unexpected news is like the impact when a brick is fall down; both impacts produce a shocking feeling.

BRICK vs STONE
What construction material would you use to build your own house? Why?
For building my house I prefer to use brick as construction material, because for me aesthetically brick is more beautiful than stone, also it is cheaper and there exist a lot techniques of laying.
